Modular has won the majority of Ethereum-aligned developer mindshare and consumer L2 activity. Monolithic chains dominate certain performance-critical categories: high-frequency DEXs, DePIN, and payments.
What Actually Matters to Users
End users almost never care about the underlying architecture. They care about fees, finality, and reliability. Both models can deliver those; neither has a monopoly on the outcome.

The most likely future is not one architecture winning but both coexisting, each dominant in different categories. The debate is less useful than a clear-eyed look at what apps and users actually choose.
